Hey, Volt, how do ya like my new avatar?! Hehehehe... Carl rules! I get bored easily, I guess... Had to find another one already... Was glad to find a pic of Carl that would stick. I'm like the Redneck version of Carl, I guess, but I don't have a pool in my backyard like Carl does...and I don't live next to crazy, talking fast food or a silly meatball. I had plenty of chores/errands that needed to be done today but I decided to just put my sweatpants on and get drunk like ol' Carl would've done. I've been walkin' around in my ancient blue flip-flops all day--just drinkin' and smokin' on the back porch--here in my flip-flops--it's a great feelin'...

"Why I Am Not A Christian" isn't in my personal library yet, but I've read my sister's copy. Actually, I think I read most of it while standing up in the philosophy section at Barnes & Noble, before she ever loaned it to me... I'm a cheap bastard... I intend to get my own copy someday. I do have "Religion And Science" and "The Conquest Of Happiness." Bertrand Russell was a brilliant, practical philosopher who consciously brought himself down several notches for the benefit of everybody else. Many of his contemporaries seemed to be bent only on impressing other philosophers, but Russell was different--I think he honestly just wanted to communicate an important message to regular folks...

There is a certain irony in having an avatar of a fat balding man and a title of "21st-Century Overman." As for my own avatar I've always liked because it looks like, especially when I'm out hiking and wearing my Tilly hat. Every once in a while I think of changing to a picture of an alien from another planet because that's how I feel.
Bertrand Russell was a brilliant, practical philosopher who consciously brought himself down several notches for the benefit of everybody else.
Actually Russell wrote two classes of books, one for the general public and other books full of that dense prose that philosphers use. I do heartily agree however that his books for the general public are easy to understand and full of wonderful ideas. I like his The Conquest of Happiness, but his In Praise of Idleness I found to be a breath of fresh air after having the Protestant work ethic beaten into my head all my life.

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. Sometimes I feel like a genetically engineered alien that has just crash-landed on this miserable planet with little or no chance of ever leaving. What's hilarious about the second album cover is that if you read the title and then look at the picture without any prior assumptions you'd be led to believe it's the Louvin Brothers that are Satan. The smartly dressed man with a pitchfork in his hand must be an admiring fan! I also found that you can even buy this album on Amazon.com!
I did find some other fine examples of God's Power Record Cover Wisdom. The first cover should make any alter boy shudder.

Yeah, either that or the Lord is really Satan and He put the John Candy twins on a diet when He got here, turning them into the Louvin Brothers--and now they're ready to go home to be with "The Lord"... Yeah, that Maria is a real fine piece of God's handiwork, for sure. I think she probably has a few highballs to calm her nerves before getting up there to sing, but overdoes it every time. She sounds even worse than the ol' girl at the local sleazy bar on karaoke night who never fails to get drunk and sing "Delta Dawn"--usually two times per night! I can't figure out if she thinks it sounds so good people ought to hear it twice, or just forgets that she's sung it once already. Anyway, I'd really like to hear Maria Tilton sing "Delta Dawn." I think she should go on tour with William Hung and Chicken Little--that'd be great.
Have you seen the video at Capt'n Bob's site where he tells his conversion story? I think he talks about being at rock bottom when a church group comes knockin' on his door. There's a prayer circle, I think, and he talks about receiving a little "black plastic bible" from them. After that, he says he became a "fanatic." He actually uses that word. He's amazing...
ADDENDUM: Well, I'm not really into country music, but I found this 1973 video of 13- year-old Tanya Tucker performing "Delta Dawn." If somebody would've helped her iron-out that weird vibrato vocal effect that she does, I think this performance would've gone from "very impressive" to "phenomenal." But still, at 13? That's hard to believe... Whether you like this kind of music or not, you have to appreciate it coming from a 13-year-old. After listening to the lyrics more closely, I guess I was a little too hard on the ol' gal at the local bar. Maybe she sings it twice 'cause she feels it so deeply. After all, these seedy places are magnets for the downtrodden and disappointed. This early Tanya Tucker reminds me of Janis...

Would ya look at this thread...we've gone from farting preachers, to Davidians, to cheezy album covers, to 13-year-old country night club singers; what a mix. Then again, if Jimmy Swaggart could tumble with common street ho's, I can see Robert Tilton getting together with sultry, warbling teenyboppers...GULP! Now all we need are Robert and Leanne or Tanya (or all three) on an album cover, photographed at a Davidian compound. DOUBLE GULP!

To return to the original subject, I have just finished reading the "Rat's are eating my brain" link and I want to help his ex-wife take Tilton for everything he's got. Specifically, I was wondering oif she needed to enlist anyone to assist her in writing her book. Can anyone help me out here?

Yep, that's vocal perfection comparable to Jaci Velasquez or Patsy Cline, for sure--maybe even a little bit better. The problem with LeAnn is her eyes--just plain vicious! She always looks like she just finished her third pitcher of Budweiser and is about to decapitate somebody with her fingernails. By the way, I've concluded that "Delta Dawn" is a Satanic song.
Anyway, I'm sitting here patiently waiting for the next Farting Preacher episode like everybody else. What are we up to now, #6 or 7? That was an astute observation somebody made about Tilton's dimples being up near his eyeballs now due to a facelift. Actually, I don't think they're dimples at all--they are like the heat-sensing pits that copperheads have, 'cept in his case they help him hone in on $1,000 vows of faith.
I'm also waiting for my third unsolicited copy of "The Whirlwind Of The Lord" to come in the mail from the Davidians. It's just a matter of time... They won't leave me alone 'cause they know I have a huge stockpile of alcohol, tobacco, and firearms.
And lastly, I'm waiting for Pat Robertson to get busted for leg-pressing phony foam "weights." That'd make a much more interesting story than Swaggart bonin' some prostitute in a cheap motel.
