Yup..me too. Society for women has been a place where 'we' weren't all that valued. "Women' s place is in the Home'. ......................... This ad..isn't all that funny & in hindsight I should have plopped it into the bucket?......Its about women not being accepted as part of the human race & thought of 'unclean' . The idea that a woman's smell is 'nasty'....has been around for ages. From the time of the ad..the 50's?feminine hygiene products become more & more tricked up and presented to consumers as a 'necessary' product. The idea was that without it...the girl/woman wouldn't be as socially successful. I remember vaugly seeing those sprays in the chemist when I was a kid.
Advertising is scary today.
When I was running workshops for women in disadvantaged communities......we used 'advertising' or should I say..deconstructing advertising as a self teaching tool. Women have these weird ideas about themselves, that can & does wreck our lives. Breaking the cycle of Domestic Violence is about self esteem. Of course christianity is also a huge part of it...christianity also used advertising to their advantage. That's christmas/easter...& all that evangelising...radio bullshit.
This thing about beauty ..is that its manufactured by advertising. The trends have changed and women are supposed to change themselves to fit in with societies norms. Its fucked up....all these boob jobs when next year small boobs might well be 'in'. I think its also playing a part in how people....all sexes see themselves - their body image is skewed towards an ideal that costs a lot of money to create.
yes....feminists have been writing about it for years...book sounds good shadow.
but yeah....women are seen to be the keepers of the marriage! Thats so stupid...as least thats slowly changing.
--------------------------------------------------------------
In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince people that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy person living in a natural, intelligible universe. If Christianity is to gain a motivational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, woman(man) is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.
