I just have a quick question. Are there any reliable news sources other than CNN and the major networks? I am so tired of the pro war slant on everything.

"There are three topics which are taboo as far as Americans are concerned...[and one is] the total atheist who lives a happy and useful life and dies in his sleep at the age of 106."
- Vladimir Nabokov, introduction to Lolita

"Perhaps we should focus on the positive aspect of video games. For example, children can pick up real world experience in the event that the earth is taken over by monsters and the only thing that can save humanity is magical swords, rocks, and...playing cards."

And that's ALL they're reporting and have been for the last 48 hours. Thank goodness for NPR or I'd never know what was happening in the rest of the universe!

I enjoy the CBC point of view, although don't expect it to differ in any material respect from official government policy. The entire network and expecially its news service owes its existance to federal government subsidies. Nevertheless, I am usually impressed with the quality of their broadcasts and they rarely descend into the blatant anti-americanism that their French-language sister station Radio-Canada is known to do.

The anti-war point of view is omnipresent in most of the non-USA media, especially non-English language sources. I've watched a few reports from TF1 which parrot the Chirac/de Villepen position. One of our local TV stations occasionally picks up pieces from the BBC but I haven't seen enough of them to form an opinion. Wednesday night, when the "target of opportunity" attack occured, I tuned into a Spanish-language radio broadcast (based from where I don't know). The virulence with which the anchor attacked the USA actions sounded like propaganda coming from Saddam Hussein himself.  Editorials in El Pa? and El Mundo (Madrid) have not been kind to the USA or Jos?Mar? Aznar's government, although the "news" articles tend to be very evenhanded (IMHO).

a list of sources can be foundhere or here

something to keep in mind is that every journalistic production has some kind of bias, IMO. in my view, it helps to visit the extremes in order to understand where the balance may actually be found. good luck in your search for 'truth'.

What can I say? I started looking for it in religion, and now the search for truth has proven to be quite addictive.
