 A female corporate executive from Colorado who borders on being theologically liberal is married to a former preacher and stay home father, changes places with a born again Christian, who prefers homeschooling her six children and believes in being a helpmate to her husband.

In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince people that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy person living in a natural, intelligible universe. In the eyes of Christianity, woman(man) is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. I don't know what you think...but I'm not focusing on the women so much as the men. Both are as obnoxious as each other. I'm left wondering what 'liberal' means in the USA? cos that theologian dad is a right smarmy twit.

The conservative dad - well...? thats also a prime example for how some christians can justify fucking their daughters?

I know..I know...its only a TV show (funny )

Oh and its nice to see that female conservative/fundamentalist stereotype that was running around the web (whatherface..the one that is now so famous) being shaken up a bit. This women in this show presents what is most common I think - that sickly sweet - polite as all get out - "blessings to you' to your face but happy to send you to hell at the drop ... 

? whatever - its only a peek and as far as I"m concerned &  being on TV is fair game.

Wife Swap seems to be fascinated with religion. There always seems to be some kind of fundy vs. secular set-up going on. I haven't watched it in awhile, but it's been entertaining at times. One thing I don't like is when the "swapped" spouse makes rules that infringe on the religion (or lack thereof) of the host family ,such as "We're all gonna go to church/stop going to church for two weeks" or whatever. People have enough differences due to background, location, eccentricities, etc. to make for an entertaining swap without asking people to betray their spiritual beliefs. I remember the one where the born again woman made the atheist guy preach a gospel message in a busy downtown area. The guy ended up preaching an atheist message and throwing the woman's Bible in the trash can. I don't see how that kind of thing helps people understand eachother. It just creates hate.

I think you are probably right about that - 'creates hate' bit Logo.  But maybe 'more hate' would be even better or more realistic thing for me to say ?

I popped back to add a comment  - that I think many christians  don't seem to get along with each other let alone other religions or non believers.
(I'd say that even without this TV clip in mind.) Most if not all 'conservatives' believe they have the complete 'truth'  and resign all other views as being 'of satan' or something like that. ? and "liberals' seem to think they have a 'better' one too?

We don't get too much 'Wife Swap" on TV here in Aust but I think the programmers of the show are cashing up on something that IS there in the community anyway. They are exploiting it for sure! But from what I understand all the couples sign an agreement and appear on the show for some payments? They are not asked to 'betray' but do it willingly. Knowing that kinda puts a different frame on it -nobody is being victimised on  'reality' TV shows. Like I said..its fair game.
