Here's one of them....

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23159264-13762,00.html

A TEENAGE schoolgirl has shocked her family and friends by leaving home to live with her 49-year-old religious education teacher.
Jess Anderson, 16, moved in with father-of-two Clive Richards just three days after his third wife left their rented home in Goldsithney, Cornwall last month.

The teenager's family said they had no idea about their daughter's relationship with her teacher until she sent them an email saying she had left home.

"We are going out of our minds with worry, and they are living just half a mile away,'' Jess's mother Frances Hichens told The Daily Mail.

"It is like grieving, only worse, because there is no end in sight.

"I love her so much - we all do. We just want her back.''

Mrs Hichens has been told by police that she has no legal right to stop her daughter leaving home because at 16 she is considered old enough to decide where she lives.

In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince people that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy person living in a natural, intelligible universe. If Christianity is to gain a motivational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, woman(man) is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.

obviously you have a concrete idea's about what this forum is about?
Do tell...

Oh and a 49 yr old religious education teacher fucking one of their students doesn't strike you as being a tad over the top - contradictory? or is that something to be expected in class?

erm... "Walking away from Fundamentalism" by any chance?

""Oh and a 49 yr old religious education teacher fucking one of their students doesn't strike you as being a tad over the top - contradictory? or is that something to be expected in class?""

It sounds like a person that's done a very bad thing. It says nothing about their beliefs or Christianity.

Surely you don't think that being, believing or declaring yourself as a Christian makes you perfect do you???

I dunno guest, I've seen this type of thing happen twice, both times in the church. A 14 year old girl girl "betrothed" to a 29 year old youth leader and a 17 year old girl marrying a 30 year old youth leader in what may have been a shotgun wedding (the baby was born around 8 months after the vows).

In the news story snakehic provided, at least the parents were upset. In the cases I'm talking about, the girls parents shook the guys' hands and blessed their choices. In fact, they were flattered...he was in leadership, after all! One family memebr of one of the girls took issue with whole thing, and he was taken aside and spoken to til he came to see things god (their) way.

I'd say logophile that the people carrying out those acts at the church you attended were extremely misguided (in a Christian sense) and abusing God as well as themselves and their victims. Hell is a place on earth and those acts are of people living out hell.

I used to attend a church that a few select people did similar things. Most of the people were good people trying to live right.

Why doesn't it say anything about their belief system?  It doesn't make sense to separate action and hands off the belief system?

Of course I don't think calling yourself a christian or anything  at all make anyone 'perfect' ...but the fact is that is not how christianity like to think of itself - all the PR...all the cries of 'persecution' at any kind of criticism or look in.

I think it might be a sign of politeness if you used a name so Logo (waves)  and I could enjoy the same benefit of identifying the different posts as you do.

You have a good point. Bad stuff should certainly be highlighted. You have to otherwise how would you know where the traps are/ were.

I think you suggest tho' that Christianity is wholly wrong when it isn't. In the name of Christianity have been committed some of the worst atrocities the world has seen. In my opinion. (Some believe it isn't quite so strongly 'religiously biased - I keep an open mind). That has to be accepted I think. Like I said, I think that's the nature of the beast.

Aww - I was liking the anonimity! :D I'll sign up later ;)

YOu are still anonymous..! silly...

Well...I do think that xianity is " wrong"  in that it makes promises to people that it cannot possibly fulfill - take the 'heaven' / 'hell' trip.....there is no proof or certainty

and as far as I'm concerned the whole thing latches on the 'reality' of people getting the right to some authority to judge and persecute....and define who is 'evil' and who is not....

It largely is based on fear.

THe love bit is so conditional...take the father sacrificing his son for the weekend to make a point? the concepts are violent...exploitative etc...

I do think it causes more harm than good in the world.  If you compare christianity to other large religions ...it doesn't stack up very well.

I don't believe in either in 'that' sense - I should confess - very unXtian of me dontcha fink?

They're right here, right now, and that is also the majority position of it in the big book thingy. You can be living in Heaven, or living in Hell.

and as far as I'm concerned the whole thing latches on the 'reality' of people getting the right to some authority to judge and persecute....and define who is 'evil' and who is not....

Definition helps. If you're gonna be a twat about it, no that doesn't help. (not you - other ppl)

It largely is based on fear.

Agreed. That's the work of twats tho'.

THe love bit is so conditional...take the father sacrificing his son for the weekend to make a point? the concepts are violent...exploitative etc...

No that's badly wrong - 'everybody knows' (as Blue Cow says ) that Gods love is unconditional - that's the point - it's totally illogical otherwise.
PEOPLE's love can be conditional... that's BAD tho'.

I do think it causes more harm than good in the world.  If you compare christianity to other large religions ...it doesn't stack up very well.

meh - Islam comes pretty close. Depends where you read your facts, but anyway - I agree with you
