Another controversyI love this site - its well researched and very comprehensive (includes lot of standard information regarding cults) .The topic -The AA is a cultis highly debatable. SOme people swear by them and others like me don't think its worth the risk...we've had a discussion here about it after I posted the link. I think its worthwhile.http://www.orange-papers.org/menu1.htmlMore on cults.....not seen as often as some of the other's material which is all over the web.http://www.workingpsychology.com/cult.htmlRick Ross.....http://www.rickross.com/reference/general/general431.htmlI also like the Jehovah's Witness - Freeminds web pagehttp://www.freeminds.org/index.htmlhttp://www.nobeliefs.com/index.htmThe science of Good and Evil by Shermer - ethicshttp://www.nobeliefs.com/Shermer2.htmAnd Pyschology of cyberspace...http://www.rider.edu/~suler/psycyber/psycyber.htmlI'm sorry I did get off the subject a little......cultsHumor....http://www.godlessbastard.com/http://www.christploitation.com/http://www.afa.net/http://stupidevilbastard.com/http://tftb.com/deify/index.html#freakhttp://patriotboy.blogspot.com/

In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince people that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy person living in a natural, intelligible universe. If Christianity is to gain a motivational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, woman(man) is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.

Snakechic, you've been busy! All good stuff, and I promise to get to it all.

I'm going to hold off on the AA site until members here have had some time to discuss it. I agree with you that it's a cult. Strangely, I just watched an episode of Penn & Teller's Bullshit! on 12 step programs, and it further cemented my belief that AA at least has cult tendencies. Since AA isn't directly related to leaving fundamentalist Christianity, I'm going to hold off adding it. It's probably worth some discussion, though.
