...."told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce evangelical Baptist minister who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959."........... i'm only half way through the book so please don't spoil it for me if you have actually read it. my wife just finished and she loved it. some will find the content quite triggering, if they are still a litlle raw about the ills of religion and all. still, the book does not intend to attack the idea of faith. i found the start just a little slow (only for 50 pages) but now i wish i had more time to polish it off quickly. as is, it could take me a few weeks because i am busy with other stuff. i am often drawn to authors that can tell a brilliant story and also provide a well-researched historical setting (Colleen McCulloch, Edward Rutherford, Ken Follet, Michener etc). it is told as the diary of the five female family members, and as soon as these characters develop, their voices can be heard as clear as a bell. each has their own wonderful nuances and linguistic twists and i very impressed with that ability in the author. like i said, only half way through. i'll come back to this thread when i manage to finish it :-)
