Hi everyone,I can't wait to sit down and go through these forums and meet everyone.I'm Paul. I just turned 31 this January and nearly ended my life after suffering a life altering disillusionment following "guidance from God." I was born again at the age of fourteen and immediately raised in the Pentecostal and Word-Of Faith movement and have been through every facet of Christian subculture you can think of over the past 17 years. I had many theological overhauls and years of unbelief in between. In order to continue living, I had to go year by year through each event, author, influence, and belief and record it, choosing finally to live by reason and common sense. My personal autobiography ended up being 900 pages when formatted for publication, so I decided to put up videos on youtube instead. If anyone is interested in taking a fifteen year journey through Christian culture and all of the disilusionments in between, by all means come watch. The link to the first video is here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-outOB1tX8I have just added videos 7, 8, and 9 today. I am trying to do three at a time every other day. Eventually I will move on to book readings and overviews of books on Christian culture. Hope to meet you all. Thanks for reading and visiting my videos.Paul

Hiya Paul...

great to see you! SO cool to be able to see your face. You made some great points in that youtube vid. I liked how you talked about being aware of your own 'life script'.....while being aware that yours is unique to you. I also loved that you mention that people are more important than reading books and accumulating facts etc. And that its tough work ..to share 'realities' with others....What I liked most...was the point about 'beliefs' ...and your own awareness of how they run your life. Can I add that its also a handy knack to be able to analysis and pick out the beliefs in all areas of life. Particularly in politics..that's my fun anyway...

Welcome...!

--------------------------------------------------------------
In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince people that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy person living in a natural, intelligible universe. If Christianity is to gain a motivational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, woman(man) is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.

Welcome to the forums!

I've watched about 4 blogs so far. These are great. You really put the culture and viewpoints very succinctly and clearly.

Welcome to Walk Away! I just finished watching all 9 of your videos and am eagerly waiting for more.

I just turned 31 this January and nearly ended my life after suffering a life altering disillusionment following "guidance from God."

Unfortunately this is quite a common response. I ought to know because I used to be suicidal over my lack of "spiritual growth." Other people on this forum have gone through all kinds of mental torture from issues arising from Christian belief. Glad you didn't make the ultimate decision.

My personal autobiography ended up being 900 pages when formatted for publication, so I decided to put up videos on youtube instead.

Wow, that's quite a big book. Are you going to try and get it published?

Zombies, Unicorns, Devils, Sea Monsters, Satyrs, Dragons, Six Winged Angels, Gods, Demons, Witches, Astrologers, A walking & talking snake, Magical fruit, Talking donkeys, human headed six-winged beasts, Ghosts. All that stuff is in the Bible and yet they tell me it"s not mythology?

Hi everyone, thank you for your kind responses.

Thank you for watching the videos as well.  All the time spent recording, editing, and uploading has me tired of my own voice and wondering if they will keep anyone's interest.

10, 11, and 12 will be up by the day's end.  I have a feeling the series will end up around 50 videos.  I'm trying very hard to get to the point in each one, but also want to stop and talk theology and show enough heart for people to relate to them.

This is all part of the problem as to whether or not to publish - that there is too much there.  I would need the help of people who command me to cut out stuff I really want to keep in.  Plus, it would end up being a "spiritual autobiography" without a demographic to market it to specifically.  When you are a Christian, you get handed these booklets on the Bible, prayer, tithing, fellowhip, and new believers guides as well as explanations of doctrines, etc.  Well I was thinking of a very simple book just like that for new believers that non-believing family can give to their loved ones, except explaining that what they will be taught about these things isn't true, and here is why.  Just title in "An Introduction to Your New Born-again Life" or something unassuming that can be left in church libraries, etc.

Hello Paul.  Just started watching your videos; most excellent!  I will have to set aside time this weekend to watch the rest.

Thank you very much for watching.

These videos are very personal and embarrassing.  I have wondered how much to share and not share.  I am almost finished recording and editing the whole series and I think it's gonna end up around 60 videos long.

I'm not sure people will hang in there that long, but I've been through a lot and want to clearly articulate each step, move, and belief.

It can be a burdern reliving this over and over again and almost want to scratch the project for that reason alone.  Feedback always encourages me of course, so thank you!

Welcome to the forum. Like so many of us, you literally escaped fundamentalism with your life. Common sense and logic -- now that is a great way to live! Look forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks for all of the warm welcome everyone.

I just finished re-recording the "My Spiritual Journey" series in 30 videos instead of 60.  I re-titled it "From Belief To Unbelief" to give it more direction.

What I'll do now is start a post in the support forum if anyone who watches them wants to discuss them.  I will put the links there as well.  Thanks again everyone,

Paul

Hi Paul,

I haven't been able to find your vids on youtube but just to say that I have felt suicidal on and off for much of my christian walk and I have a long story to tell of my 5.5yrs in fundi churches. I am just starting to crawl out. The stuff that has ended up in my head has left me confused and walking on eggs. I will tell my story later. Wpold love to watch your vids in future. I'm very new and excited about getting to know some enlightened folk and get my IQ back. I am amazed that my kids didn't get screwed up over my time in a fundi church. They are unbelievably well adjusted. I am looking forward to a future in the real world with real people. These fundi pastors are money grubbing scaremongering theives of peoples lives. thats all I have to say for now but I have so much venting to do and can't promise to keep my language seemly.
