I'm impressed that you have what it takes to stand up for yourself against this sort of treatment. I got the same thing from my family, and it was horrible for me. I tried going to church to please them... for a while... Problem is, there was no room for compromise. Hopefully your family will be able to give a little with some time. Welcome to the forum! I guess I was very well protected growing up as a child because I never saw it. What I saw between '95 and 2000 just turned me off completely. I just couldn't believe that so-called christians acted that way to each other. Hi Lapellegrina40 So much for 'family value's' and all the other stuff professed by fundy groups these days - fundism is responsible for more families dysfunction than - I can poke a stick at. For me it's been 2 phone calls in 3 or so years and in my case its 'just' my extended family - sister etc. I can't imagine how painful it would be for your kids to 'shun' you like this. You sound like a very couragous person but at the same time I feel you probably didn't have much choice once you started the process. It's great that you have found a new partner and your life sounds full of new opportunities. Nothing like a change in scenery to boot. 40 seems like a good year for women - yay! I kinda felt like I was on my own there for awhile, but you guys have given me a newfound strength. Yeah, the kids not speaking to me has been so hard, especially the last two months. I think it also has something to do with possible early menopause but that's whole other story! My partner has been very supportive to a point; he just cannot fathom the reasons my girls could possibly give for behaving this way. He doesn't have much of a concept of fundism since he very rarely ever went to church. But like I said, he tries to be supportive about it all but it just really pisses him off. And yes, my life this past year has been great. A new school, good grades, and an internship that's been extended and could go permanent. I've been blessed by the gods! Courageous? hmmm...maybe or maybe just foolish. All I know is I couldn't take another minute of him or religion.
