Reply to AthenaMarina (06/24/2008 15:21:54). My boss asked me a while ago if I wanted to join her church's choir. I have been known to sing on occasion and boss said I have a beautiful voice plus two of the other three colleagues who I work closest with had joined. I said OK because I am not having to do an extra job like everyone else. Thought about it, decided I wasn't really keen on it at all but boss DID give me an extra job so I thought SOD the choir anyway I have reclaimed my weekends (from church) and I want to KEEP it that way! Next it was one of my colleagues wanted to invite me as a "guest" and I said maybe but then me and a different colleague said we grew up with that stuff now we are taking a break! Noone asked again. BUT So like I said two colleagues joined the choir. Later on one of them tells me they were told to keep singing in the choir they had to be confirmed into the church!!! So they had to go to classes, probably preached at, saying they believed this and that. THEN they have joined the youth group helping to run it (Friday nights) and went on a trip with them last Saturday no the one before.) And I feel like the choir thing was a hook like join the choir, sing and later on oh you have to be confirmed and then extra duties! And I am SO glad I didn't join their choir!!!! Cos I've BEEN down that road and with Christianity - I have nothing against others who believe but FOR ME - it is a door that I have closed, locked and bolted and I am NEVER going BACK to it!! |
bumps.... There are so many 'hooks' or down right lies told and used by christians to get you..or to manipulate the situation for the purpose of getting more converts - bums on seats. What I don't like ...and seems to happen most often is that christians will fake a relationship...being friendly for some kind of purpose ...maybe as a way to feel self righteous or get in a bit of braggin ...the life with their church is bad. Crazy shit... that nicey nice smile...hiding all that 'hate' and judgment of others ...of course in the name of a god'.
-------------------------------------------------------------- In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince people that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy person living in a natural, intelligible universe. If Christianity is to gain a motivational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, woman(man) is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.
