I was scanning the other thread here ("what lies..fill emptiness")  and found this great quote from one of the past members here.

I can't put all the blame on the church or  even on the other people delivering all those familiar lies and bullshit. I have to assume responsibility and not constantly blame ..blame blame...it all on some psychological tricks of the christian   trade or the deceitful practises of family. I refuse to be a 'victim' or constantly have that familiar bleating 'victim mentality'..that 'gawd, the devil or some other fellow MADE ME DO IT.!

I was   happy to take back control of my own life. For me... at the last incident or encounter with christianity/christians was due to my own fuck up and denying the obvious - that relationships with full on fundies or christians is going to be manipulative, fake and get me no where. I too concerned at 'people pleasing' or more to the point one person in particular. My sibling.

I went along with it because I knew that if I spoke out - there would be consequences - bad blood so to speak.  I ignored the very obvious  - the Large pink elephant in the room - every single time I chose not to say my piece.

Part of the agenda of christianiy  is to silence people  who don't go along with the herd  or some kind of 'rule' ................  through  using  very familiar tactics - ie.  name calling , belittling,  emotional blackmail and making  it seem as 'you' are responsible for their entire lives if you don't change your behaviour in some way.

  & I don't think its necessary to change one herd for another one to feel safe, validated..or to fill any kind of emptiness - some emptiness is part of the human condition.

I agree with the statement about some emptiness being part of the human condition. In nature leaves fall during the winter and some animals hibernate while farmers let the odd field become fallow for a year. Closing down on oneself is a way of taking stock or storing up energy to be released when things get going again. These feelings of emptiness come when you question and chuck out the rubbish which has to be done in order to move forward. The problem comes when other people around you expect you to be on top of things all the time, raring to go and not taking time out. They think that any feelings of emptiness will lead into a downward spiral into nothingness yet they are only temporary. We've lost touch with our natural selves through industrialisation and organised religion has been of the major agents in facilitating that process.

Name calling - I've been there, got the T-shirt and read the book. Fundies are incapable of asserting themselves or negotiating interaction with others without labelling and judging people. They feel they have to qualify their requests with personal attacks on others disguised as "helpful comments". Yet they don't realise the more they judge and criticise the more they in turn will be judged and criticised.

Just by some coincidence I lef t this forum to search news on the BBC website and found this. This article echoes what I was mentionning above and it can be found at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7268496.stm.

Of particular interest is the quote "Psychological unease can generate creative work and the rebirth after depression brings a new love affair with life."  I can vouch for that.  After the longest period of depression in my life in the winter of 2000/01 on fully recovering I found a new lease for life and was at my happiest for a while until returning to normal and experiencing the full range of emotions according to what was going on around me.

Yep...and what I find curious is that 'believers' (fundies if you like) come across very sugary and sweet. Polite?  As if butter wouldn't melt.
  However when they get riled they'll fling an insulting bible verse at you rather than be real about it.
You know what I mean?
Those bible verses are nothing  but weapons to   insult their perceived 'enemy' or person of annoyance. To me it makes the whole thing so fake and you get the idea that they lack confidence in what they believe.

Excellent find! I enjoyed reading that.
There seems to a small shift away from prescription drugs right now. People generally are starting to question the effectiveness of anti depression meds and beginning to see how much our society is relying on these things.
When people starting medicating their pets - you know its bad.!

  Keith Ledger's recent death has made the press & others  stand up  - to the fact that people are given a wide range of drugs by their Medic.  Its such a huge and common practise of overprescribing.
Gawd!..what was it? Zanax, Zoloft, Sillnox & ?? all at once? Then on top of that people usually take a puff or three and wash it all down with a beer. Illegal drugs seem to  hit the spot light. ?

I was given some CDs of relaxing music with nature sounds and I thought boring? They were given by the ex-friend mentioned in a previous thread who was trying to palm them off on to me as they in turn had been an unwanted present given to her probably by some do-gooder type to try and get her to sit still and relax. I started playing them but with the intention of listening through just once and then giving them maybe to a complementary therapist and guess what? They're not bad. Just the thing to play in the background when I'm on my computer or reading and what to listen to something that's not obtrusive. More so my birds really enjoy listening to them and it keeps them quiet in the mornings when they can get quite rowdy with their pent up morning energies.

I was  reminded (again) what a huge part FEAR plays in all this stuff.

But I'll spare the details - it really doesn't make that much difference to me these days.
