Wow...I've often joked about the idea that churches should set up an EPTOS machine right next to the submersion tank!

--------------------------------------------------------------
In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince people that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy person living in a natural, intelligible universe. If Christianity is to gain a motivational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, woman(man) is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.

Yep, you could pay by eftpos too.

Positive thinking means finding the good in all experiences, including the ones that guide you away from repeating them.

Here ya gooo!!     I'm always willing to help out as much as I can,,,

Okay, I finally found it...  The one in the lower left corner is the one my dad used to have.  I kinda think the picture in the lower right corner was on the back.  I don't know what happened to it.  My mom probably threw it away--she eventually throws every fuckin' thing away!!

Reply to : GrayfeatherOkay! How do you feel about tithing?I have always felt very uncomfortable with it. When I get a gut feeling something is wrong, it usually is. I have always felt that tithing is wrong. My father was obcessesed with it. We were poor people but he gave more than the ten per cent "required" in tithing to a church or revivals. It used to drive me nuts!

We used to have to give the 10% then an offering. They had a system that meant we pledged our 10% and the church claimed back some tax, so they knew if you were tithing. That was done by bank transfer so they could see if you were giving on top when the plate went round. We were really poor most of the time, sometimes in dire need. Sometimes the church would help but not without a lecture on how I wasn't receiving a financial blessing because i should be giving more joyfully, with more faith, just more!! I think the offering was often referred to as 'seed' money, give and recieve a hundred fold yield. How barmy is that, how selfish and how hard for those who cannot afford it? - the guilt if you didn't, the feeling of condemnation.

lsl_mss's recent post reminded  me of this thread.

So not only do you have to fork out  at the  collection plate but individual members are also scamming each other for money/funds for various 'missions' or personal  wants!

How incredible!
