See, and all I can think about is how much sushi the thing would make!

Some love is just a lie of the heart
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start
And they may not want it to end
But it will it's just a question of when
I've lived long enough to have learned
The closer you get to the fire the more you get burned
It's hard when you're always afraid
You just recover when another belief is betrayed
So break my heart if you must
It's a matter of trust

what amazes me is the idea that something THAT SIZE actually is swimming around out there somewhere in the depths of the ocean. to actually encounter one full grown, alive and in the wild would just be fantastic.

Yes, but if you were in the water with it, it might well be the last thing you ever saw.

As a kid I remember reading that sperm whales eat these things.  Back then the only proof they had of their existence were the scars of the sucker wounds on the sperm whale.

I also remember the scene in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, but I don't think the Nautilus ever made it into cold enough water.

I bet they're scary-ass critters when in their own element.  The ones you see lying on the dissecting tables are not being buoyed or inflated by water.  I bet they look awesome all blown up and alive, their tentacles waving in the water.  Too cool.

Interestingly, cephalopods like squid and octopi--especially octopi--are rather intelligent and have excellent color eyesight.
