Don't have time for detailed thoughts, and I'll probably change my mind anyway by the time I get back to this tonight.
- Worst movie ever!
Plan 9 from Outer Space is a good candidate. The Fischer King is another. Mommy Dearest is another.
- Best movie ever!
Hard to decide between: To Kill a Mockingbird; In the Heat of the Night, and The Seventh Seale.
- I don't understand what the hubbub is all about!
Titanic. Chicago.
- Why doesn't anyone but me like this movie?
Bless the Beasts and Children. Slipstream. Phenomenon.
- The book was better.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Just about any movie based on a book. Exceptions are Devil's Advocate, The Lathe of Heaven, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and Little Big Man, each of which I thought the movie was as good or even better than the book.
- The movie was better.
Oops. As I said above.
- Funniest movie ever!
La Cage aus Faux (much better than the Robin Williams version), Ruthless People, Plan 9 from Outer Space (by accident)
- Best spoof or satire movie!
Rocky Horror Picture Show. High Anxiety.

Let's see... I don't see a lot of movies, but I do have a few opinions. So pardon a somewhat defective response....
1. Have not seen enough to comment, but Manos: The Hands of Fate is down there.
2. Too hard to decide, though the best I've seen in recent memory might be Monument Ave.
3. Vanilla Sky. A wretched train wreck of a sci-fi movie, with an interesting premise executed so pretentiously and incompetently that the climax of the movie felt like a total rip-off; I'm tempted to see the original (Abre los Ojos), but I'm afraid it won't be any better in Spanish (I can't get excited about Penelope Cruz either way). Tom Cruise is truly the new Kevin Costner.
4. Howard the Duck. It was corny, and I don't know if I could watch it now, but at the time (I think I was in jr high at the time) I remember thinking, "This isn't as bad as they said..."
5. Jurassic Park. The book was an incredible, if somewhat preachy, read, but between the role switch for the kids (which would have been fine if that was how it had originally been written), the overblown cameos from overblown technology (it was "Connection Machines", dammit, not "Thinking Machines" -- that was the company), and the undisguised use of a frickin' QUICKTIME MOVIE as a security cam monitor, I found the movie to be a complete mess. Like "Final Fantasy", a waste of some amazing sfx work.
6. "Shrek". Took a somewhat odd and slightly repulsive little kid's book and turned it into one of the two or three greatest animated movies of the last twenty years.
7. I might perhaps have a different choice now (probably "Clerks" if I ever get around to seeing it) but as a child I could quote "Spaceballs" chapter and verse. Yeah, "Holy Grail" and all that, but...
8. Austin Powers. (Though I rather like "Not Another Teen Movie" and "Spaceballs" as well.)
How about
9. Better than it had any right being: Terminator 2. An incredible movie all around, even with (maybe even in spite of) the massive body count, frightening postnuclear imagery, and gratuitous violence.

Worst movie ever
i don't know about the worst but the most disappointing for me were the 2 new star wars movies. George Lucas is more of an empire-builder than moviemaker these days (IMO). i can't believe he shot the new films on digital video - it seems to highlight for me that he is more interested on creating a 'game-play' environment than creating a wonderful picture. phooey!
Best movie ever!
too many genres to pick from.
Horror; evil dead 1&2, the exorcist
Sci-fi/fantasy; star wars episode 4&5, aliens, the matrix, being john malkovic, lord of the rings 1&2
drama; fargo, swingblade, the hitcher (rutger hauer)
action; blade 1&2, full metal jacket
foreign language film; betty blue.
I don't understand what the hubbub is all about!
titanic, pearl harbour
Why doesn't anyone but me like this movie?
me, myself & irene - i throw it on whenever i need a laugh, the astronaut's wife (slow wind-up but what a finale!),
The book was better.
american psycho, (stephen king) the talisman, the clan of the cavebear (daryl hannah as 'aylah' was just horribly wrong!!), any jules verne novel.
The movie was better.
one flew over the cuckoo's nest,
Funniest movie ever!
wild at heart, evil dead 1&2, from dusk til dawn, starship troopers, monty python and the holy grail,
Best spoof or satire movie!
spinal tapp, galaxy quest, bring it on.
favourite actor?
edward norton, johnny depp, nicolas cage, denzel washington, gary oldman, billy bob thornton, harrison ford, ewan mcgregor
favourite actress?
cameron diaz, jodie foster, julia christie, sigourney weaver, ?laura elena harring, helena bonham-carter

- Worst movie ever! Manos, the Hands of Fate. Ugh, don't ask...
Runner up...From Dusk Til Dawn. Is this a cowboy movie or a vampire movie or a gangster movie? Jeez, just pick something and go with it!
2. Best movie ever! Camille...Garbo rocks!
Runner up... As Good as it Gets. Love the cast, love every charecter, love the diologue. Just one helluva movie!
3. I don't understand what the hubbub is all about. Gladiator. It wasn't THAT good. I mean, it won Acadamy Awards. JEEZ!
Runner Up...Remains of the Day and Howard's End. I like artsy films, I really do. These were just fucking booooring.
4. Why doens't anyone but me like this movie? Jesus Christ Superstar (2001) LOVE IT!
Runner up...The Breakfast Club. I watch it everytime it's on (and that's 24/7 on TNN)
5. The book was better. So many to chose from.. Les Miserables. Never seen a good version of that.
Runner up...The Phantom ofthe Opera. I've seen every movie version of that and none of them are remotely faithful to the book. Why can't they just do the same ending that Leroux wrote? WHY?
6. The movie was better... Silence of the Lambs. I HATE the way Thomas Harris changes from first to third person in the book. It's damn annoying.
Runner up....I would almost say Hannibal was better too but they are equally grotesque so I can't really argue it either way...
7. Funniest movie ever... The South Park Movie. "Shut your fucking face, Uncle fucker!"
Runner up...Maverick. Or the Princess Bride.
8. Best spoof or satire movie....Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail.
Runner up...Austin Powers

Worst Movie Ever: So many crappy movies, so little time... Dreamcatchers was horrid. Near Dark was worse, though. Oooh, and the old British horror movies, the Hammer ones...
Best Movie Ever: The Empire Strikes Back, Schindler's List, Andrei Rublev by Tarkovsky,....and probably Gone With the Wind.
I don't understand: Titanic, Casablanca, or most movies by Francis Ford Coppola.
No one but me likes: Star Trek movies (I even get a kick out of V, where they go find god), Moulin Rouge, Vampire Hunter D, Much Ado About Nothing, films by Sergei Eisentsein like Alexander Nevsky...
Book was better: Practically every movie, but Jurassic Park always comes to mind first, followed closely by any movie based on a Dostoevsky novel.
Movie was better: Everyone's said it, but Cuckoo's Nest is about the only one I can think of, and it's mostly because of Jack Nicholson. Although, the famous Soviet propaganda film Circus is leaps and bounds better than the story it's based on...mainly because the movie had fun songs and dances to offset the propaganda. And I almost forgot Gone With the Wind! The movie is just so much shorter than the book, and that's not saying much.
Funniest movie ever: Dr. Strangelove, The Birdcage, Holy Grail, Much Ado About Nothing, Arsenic and Old Lace, and then there's Plan 9 from Outer Space, which is so bad it cracks me up every time.
Best Satire ever: Hands down, Dr. Strangelove. Although Spaceballs is pretty damn funny too.

Funniest movie ever... The South Park Movie. "Shut your fucking face, Uncle fucker!"
Ha ha! I'd forgotten about this one, Cyrano. I only recently downloaded it and was shocked how much Kyle's mom is like mine. The Princess Bride is great, too.

Some love is just a lie of the heart
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start
And they may not want it to end
But it will it's just a question of when
I've lived long enough to have learned
The closer you get to the fire the more you get burned
It's hard when you're always afraid
You just recover when another belief is betrayed
So break my heart if you must
It's a matter of trust

- Worst movie ever! Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outerspace, although the flaming plates on strings are still highly enjoyable. If you ever see this movie on VHS for five bucks at a flea market, pick it up! (Alot of the Zombie movies suck pretty bad too, but there are too many to mention.)
-
- Best movie ever! The Warriors(cheesy and cliched, but brilliant)....Fight Club....Boyz N tha Hood....Gates of Hell.....Evil Dead I & 2.....Trans.....Requiem For a Dream.....One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest....and what the hell, Easy Rider....Gummo.....Leaving Las Vegas....Scarface....The Corndog Man....Bringing out the Dead....The Green Mile....American Beauty....Texas Chainsaw Massacre.....The Apostle....U-Turn(because I love Sean Penn).....Bad Boys....Good Will Hunting....Training Day....The Ice Storm....Blood in Blood out....Jesus' Son....Talented Mr. Ripley....Hated in the Nation: G.G. Allin and the Murder Junkies(Todd Phillips documentary)....Saturday Night Fever...(although cabel channels are starting to way overplay/overexpose it.)....Decline of Civilization pt.2, The Metal Years....Don't Look Back(Dylan's on-the-road chronicle of his '65 UK tour.)
-
- I don't understand what the hubbub is all about! The Crying Game....The Piano....LA Confidential....Fargo....Disclosure....Out of Africa....Ironweed....Chicago....Moulin Rouge....any other movie that has its cock bobbed on by the Academy Awards
-
- Why doesn't anyone but me like this movie? North Dallas Forty(although I'm sure some people, somewhere, love it as I do)....Nightmare on Elm Street pt. 2(this movie has alot of significant personal meaning to me, believe it or not)
-
- The book was better. Orwell's 1984
-
- The movie was better. Usually, it never is, IMO
-
- Funniest movie ever! Evil Dead pt.II....Jackass:The Movie....Reefer Madness(1937?)....Screwballs....Tom Green should rightly be on this list, but I gotta admit that none of his movies were as good as I expected them to be.
-
- Best spoof or satire movie! Spinal Tap....Hardcore Logo!!!

Why doesn't anyone but me like this movie: "fresh horses", "the 5th element", "attack of the clones" and "nightbreed".
The book was better: "the crow: city of angels". the novel (based on the screenplay) made me cry...the movie made me go "boy, they really screwed that one up!!".
The movie was better: "the crow"...the comicbook just wasn't that good. *ducks*
