Wondering....I started to put on more eye makeup ...as a teenager when Irefused to go to the SDAist church. I also dyed my hair and let it grow longer. My mother would hack my hair on regular intervals to make me look shit! These days thou'..I can't be bothered too much with makeup...doesn't seem to stick on well in the tropical climate.Meh...I'm thinking I might need a makeover!

In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince people that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy person living in a natural, intelligible universe. If Christianity is to gain a motivational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, woman(man) is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.

Less concerned with looking like a "lady" these days but more concerned with overall appearance. My hair's cut rather short (baptists tend to frown on short hair for women, the longer the better as far as they're concerned) and I wear pants almost constantly (last time I wore a dress was a very nice cocktail dress for the wedding of a friend's daughter). I almost never wear makeup anymore either, unless I'm going out someplace fancy. Some of this is a reaction from the "respectable x-tain lady look" I grew up with and some of it is just a combination of latent feminisim and becoming more comfortable with myself as I get closer to middle age. Being properly groomed and dressed is important to me but looking like Anita Bryant (or Halle Berry) isn't.
