I am at my wit's end. My father died in 1990 and I STILL get junk mail usually solicitations for money sent to him at my address- he never lived here or even in this state. He was real big on 'witnessing to Jewish people' and all this stuff is asking for money to help Israel, etc. I keep sending letters, have called a couple- never get answers on the letters although someone at one of the places I called was sympathetic and said they'd try to get his name off.
It's clear his name is being recycled all the time. This was a real issue between he and I and every time I get one of these it just brings it all back. I tried just tossing them and if I do that it gets worse.
Anyone know of any place I can contact to stop this or if I have any legal rightd to sue these people? Thanks.

RE:Junk religious mail- what to do??
(Date Posted:03/02/2008 04:24:29)

I signed up to the Mail Preference Scheme (UK only) to block mail but only mail from companies that you have not signed up to will be blocked.  If a company than insists on ignoring the list then you can make a complaint and action will be taken against the company.

I was inundated by several charities asking for donations just before Christmas one year and decided to investigate the source.  I found out who had passed my name on despite the fact I always tick the box not to have my details passed on to other organisations.  The source was a christian ski holiday company (I had a pretty crap holiday with them) and I sent an indignant letter requesting that they stop forwarding my details to other organisations and also to remove my details from their own database.

Not sure about being able to sue any organisations that keep you on your mailing list.  I've had trouble in the past getting off mailing lists that I signed up to in the past and also stopping multiple mailings which can happen in cases when you're already on the mailing list and you turn up to an event and give your details so that the event organisers know you're coming.  I've even had to visit the office in person when letters of complaint have gone unheeded or in the case of non-profit making organisations threaten to inform their funders.  There are always excuses from the staff about not being able to arrange their database alphabetically or being short staffed but how long does it take to remove someone on request from a database?

How horrible for you! I'd be upset/pissed off too. 18 years it a long time for them to keep this up.!!

I've asked heaps of ordinary businesses ( in person)  to take my name off their mailing list and they have quickly and efficiently complied. But in the situation of 'begging for money' charity Organisations  I doubt it would work that well, especially if you are using the phone. I don't know?

I write 'NOT AT THE ADDRESS'  and pop them back into the mailbox and my junk mail (letters ) seems to have disappeared. I doubt any business will waste money on undelivered mail.

However ..I think your best bet might be your local POST OFFICE...go there personally and explain the situation of the 'dead letters'..(Pardon the pun)  -  the post office will stop delivering Mail to you that isn't yours. I believe there is a standard form you need to fill out?

In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince people that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy person living in a natural, intelligible universe. If Christianity is to gain a motivational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, woman(man) is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.

If you receive pre-paid envelopes from charities you don't want to hear from stuff as much junk mail into the envelopes and return them.  The sender of the junk mail has to pay postage for any returned mail.

I get the same problem with chain e-mails.  From now on if I receive anything that ends with the paragraph "forward to at least five people and something good will happen today" I will immediately delete it no matter how interesting it is.  I remembe receiving the Good Karma chain e-mail a few years' ago several times.  You forward e-mails to people as you think they might be interested not because of fear something bad will happen to you or because of any hope that your dreams will come true.
