I lived in Cincinnati during the whole Larry Flynt obscenity trial. One day there showed up in the mail a little brochure called 'War: the Greatest Obscenity' It showed graphic, lurid pictures of people killed during the Viet Nam war. (This was right at the tail end of it) One line said, 'Which would you rather see? A woman with her legs spread apart, or a man with his head blown apart?'
It was a point I will never forget. And I agree with him.
This topic seems related to the bit o' controversy with that Texas town who's high school used to have Cross Dressing Day. No, this didn't mean that kids wore big Golgotha-sized crosses to school. The kids would dress up on Homecoming day in clothing of the opposite sex. That is, until a concerned parent complained. So now the kids have Camo Day instead. They dress as soldiers.
What kind of freaking sense does this make? It is bad for a boy to wear a skirt. (Because... because... well, it makes him look gay) But it is good for kids to wear clothing worn by people whose jobs it is to kill other people. And didn't we have a problem with guns in schools not too long ago?
According to the religious right, sex = evil, and war = good.
Fucked up. Totally fucked up.
