I am new to this board and welcome the chance to learn about being "defundamentalized!" I was raised Baptist, Free Methodist and have also visited Orthodox churches and have been a Lutheran and Episcopal too!I currently attend a Unitarian Universalist church which I LOVE; it is VERY FRIENDLY and NONJUDGMENTAL! I also chant mantras which has helped me tremendously!

welcome!

enjoy looking at the posts.  i've found people on this board to be both interesting and challenging.  being able to open up about my past experiences has very much helped me find out what exactly it is i believe asa far as religion and god are concerned.

happy posting!

In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince people that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy person living in a natural, intelligible universe. If Christianity is to gain a motivational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, woman(man) is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.

Hi there....

I am also new too, and have probably experienced much of the things that you have experienced.

Glad you have found a church that you like and enjoy!

I also chant mantras which has helped me tremendously!
Brain researchers have found that some mantras stimulate the workings of the 'higher' mind, helping one to comprehend there is more to life.  Welcome to the forum, your title reminds me of the saying:  "Minds are like parachutes; they work best when open."(Thomas Dewar)

--------------------------------------------------------------
Albert Einstein: "A human being is a part of the whole, called by us "Universe" a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us."

Namaste

It's an intelligently designed penguin, silly!  Nah, just happened to be the fuggliest creature I've ever seen and I had to pay homage to it somehow.  She/he/it...she-it...won't be up long but couldn't pass up.
