Organization of the BoardSome have suggested that we reorganize the board by changing some forum names, deleting some forums, or even adding forums. The overall consensus is that the purpose of this forum has evolved somewhat since its inception and it needs to be reevaluated and stated clearly. Please post (or repost) ideas and suggestion related to the reorganization (or not) of this board.?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comThanks.

I'm dense, I put this in the other place, without realising there was another place to put it.  I guess I'll be briefer.

A forum/place for younger people.

There are quite a few out there, and I think some of their/our issues are different from tose of most people on the board.  Of course whether this would take off is questionable, but perhaps giving it the opportunity.

I'm happy to help out, this is my dumb idea, but tech stuff isn't my forte (remember photos?)

Nota bad idea Rhiana, but I hope us "wrinklies" will still be allowed into such a section. I find many postings from the younger element are refreshing and contain a good level of wisdom.

Mark

that's something i hadn't considered before. you said in your other post that you feel that younger people may be shy of posting alongside people with a wealth of experience and study to draw on, which sort of makes sense. also, i think it is pertinent to note that our desires and objectives are driven by different needs as young people. i remember that we had a 13 year old posting here once and i knew at the time that our dialogue was a little heavy for that (very intelligent) individual.

even though there are similarities to a deconversion that occurs at any age, the differences are also vast. i started to deconvert as a young teenager but i had to wait to get to adulthood to stumble upon the idea of critical reasoning, for example. unfortunately, the shock of university overwhelmed me and i bailed within months. the academic process which calls for a student to qualifying their opinions scared the living daylights out of me. my point is that i am very concerned about providing a starting point for young people to explore their doubts and questions in a supportive and age-specific forum.

rhianna, you have my vote as 'junior' moderator of any future forum for young people........sorry if that comes off as condascending......i know your iq would probably make mine look like a golf handicap;-) as for the naming of such a forum, certainly not anything that seemed 'teenie'......more along the lines of being an 'undergraduate' in the university of life sor of thing. OK, i'm rambling now. suffice it to see i see merit in rhianna's suggestion.

I 4th rhiana's suggestion!  Excellent idea and nologo's suggestion that rhiana be a mod for such a forum is hereby seconded.

Ahh *blushes* thanks guys.

Mark, of course everyone is welcome in such a forum, especially if I end up a mod *wonders if such a responsibility is something she's capable of*

Nologo, not at all condescending, not at all.  I know nothing about golf handicaps so I can't comment lol.

Most of the places I end up at at the moment there's very little discussion of 'theology' per se.  People don't care that the church is refered to in Matthew's gospel before it exists, or that the OT is riddeled with mis-translations and contradictions or anything else for that matter.  Whether God exists is also rarely brought up.  Teens are worried about more immediate, tangible  things like "what happens when I tell my parents/friends" or "does God still love me though I'm gay" (that's actually surprisingly common).

"Undergrads" seems a good name for the forum, should it ever transpire.

Just a note for those of you wondering where the heck I am and have been in the last few days after I opened this topic up for discussion.  I have to take some left over vacation days or loose them by the end of the month.  Yea, I know,  what a horrible thing to hav to do  (good greif, someone has to do it).  I'll be back on full time the first of September.  Till then, I'll be briefly in and out of here.  Just wanted you to know.      Please keep the ideas coming!!!

PS: I plan to have a draft web page up by the middle of September.

Thanks.
