Bush's people haven't had a chance to plant it, yet.

Reply to : Drummond ----oddly had wondered the same thing myself. WHERE IS IT?
Bush, in his weekly radio address yesterday, again mentioned Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction as justification for war and listed their removal as the primary mission. “Our mission is clear, to disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction, to end Saddam Hussein’s support for terrorism, and to free the Iraqi people,” he said.
Like a parrot or broken record. I guess running under the assumption if repeated enuff people will beleive it/buy it.......
Also fear if it isn't there they will in fact manufacture/dream up/fabricate to justify that which they have done. Too much riding on this not to.

White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said Friday there is ?o question?that weapons of mass destruction will be found, and said documenting the discoveries ?s one of the reasons that there are so many reporters present with the military.?

This is rich. The media will be shown only what the military wants them to see. The Bushies will set up the "proof" which will then be spoon-fed to the stupid, gullible American public.

Yeah, Stumpy. This is a no-brainer. Of course Bush will find WMD, even if Iraq didn't have any. He's already shown he doesn't know the meaning of the word honesty. I have no doubt--zero--that he will manufacture "proof."

In all honesty my heart goes out to those who's loved ones have been captured. I can even begin to imagine that which they are feeling. I do know/understand their fears/concerns.
keeps going over and over in my mind, "why do we do this to are young people?!!!!
I just don't understand it. Doubt that I ever will.

This is says so much........this war will pass into the pages of a history book as so many others have. How is it we have so much data/recorded info but never truly learn the lessons of war?

Military history is one of my great passions. Lately though I find myself reading less about operations and more about the diplomacy surrounding conflict. AJP Taylor's The Origins of the Second World War, Franz Fischer's The Origins of WWI and Margaret Macmillan's Paris 1919 have been my recent English language reads (Fischer's book is in German, but English translations are available in most university libraries). What surprises me is how often history repeats itself. More surprising is that even though statesmen the world over who know that history repeats itself, continue to make the same errors.
A united front of the five major powers (USA, UK, France, Russia and China) delivering an unconditional ultimatum to Hussein and his cohorts could have averted this conflict. Sensing dissent among the great powers, Hussein has disregarded the warnings. I would have thought that the French, Germans and Russians of all people, would have understood this.
Concerning operations: History has shown time and time again that bombing of civilians strengthens the resolve of a people rather than demoralising them. This was demonstrated in the London Blitz, the German invasion of the USSR, the air campaign against Germany, the air campaign against the Japanese, the air campaign against North Vietnam, the Israeli reprisals in the West Bank, the September 11 attacks against USA civilians, and the list goes on. If the Iraqi civilian casualties mount, they will be driven to resist not out of support for Hussein, but out of love for country. The USA must succeed in painting defecting Iraqis as the true patriots and Hussein loyalists as traitors to the Iraqi people. If this propaganda war is lost, the USA will win the war but lose the peace.

That's what I'm worried about, too. I would have strongly supported the war on humanitarian grounds but for my worries about what happens after the war is "won".
Bush is being very bold and, while I'm inclined to think that this war is not a good bet in terms of its long term impact, I don't pretend to know how this will all play out. We are creating change in a Middle East that desperately needs change, but it is very possible that this bad situation will get even worse rather than better. I don't think Bush understands the consequences of this war. I predict that the lingering problems after the war will result in Bush failing at reelection. Yet I also think that in the long run, Bush has a decent shot at making the history books as a great president if the Middle East eventually becomes more stable either partly becauses of or in spite of this war.
Your comments about the great powers are spot on. France is playing a dangerous game in trying to induce Europe into following its Gaullist policies that could very well backfire.

I don't think it would have made any difference. Hussein's in denial about his future to this moment.
