During this past week at the firm, everyone has been getting into the "holiday spirit", exchanging small gifts and lleavingg Christmas cookies all around the building. Early in the week, this secretary (the same one who insists that since I''m a woman, I can't lift boxes), told me to come by her desk on Friday. Well, Friday came, and right when I was about to clock in, she entered  the mail room and told me to go follow her into the elevator.

She then announced that "the Lord has put it onto my heart to buy you some new clothes" and asked me if I would I like for her to purchase them herself or get me the gift card, Stunned, I stammered something about preferring a gift card, and as soon as the elevator opened , I darted out of there as fast as I could, terrfifed by speculation about what she was really up to.

Throughout the day, I was in a state of shock. This secretary who has caused more problems for us than everyone else in the firm combined told me that I was in such a desperate need of new clothes that she was going to foot the bill.  I told a couple of co-wrokers and they responded that they didn't blame me for being disturbed by this. I don't know if I can work at this firm anymore. First the creepy guy I Docketing who my boss had to go to HR about, nad now this. If anything like this ever happens again, I just might walk out of there and never come back.

 What should I do?

I'm JezebelRising, BTW. I posted under Guest because I haven't gotten acquainted with this new set-up yet and it won't let me cut and paste.

Is it possible to be honest with her and ask her to not approach you with her convaluted opinions?  Don't let someone else's tendency to be a religious control freak come between you and your job.  Is there someone at work you can talk to about her?

I wouldn't follow her into the elevator or any other place where you are alone, either.  If the lady didn't think her "offer" was a little off ball, why did she want to talk to you in private?  To spare you embarassment, or to deny it if you claimed she was getting religious at work?  Keep a witness around if she wants to talk to you again.  You might want to just refuse her offer too; you don't know if down the line she might expect some sort of favor from you in return ("Oh, by the way, my church is having a revival this week, and I was wondering if you...?").

I'd probably tell her to FUCK OFF!....after the shock wore off that is.  Yep...shocking!!

My advice is to practise saying....NO! (thankyou)

--------------------------------------------------------------
In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince people that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy person living in a natural, intelligible universe. If Christianity is to gain a motivational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, woman(man) is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.
