Greetings, Fellow WA Project Committee Members,If you have accessed this forum, then you are indeed a member of this committee.The current members of this committee are as follows:FoxmaidenNologoboy?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comRhianaBrakthepoetpaginity2bhoff1356Blue_FoxChirpyWaynusDokincluding ModsVoiltaire, Drummond, and St. ThomasYou were chosen because of your peculiar abilities and because you were the only ones (thus far) to postproductive information in the WA Project Forum. Ishall update member IDs as they come in.Our first task is to get some semblence of a web page/site up with some decent content.As mentioned before the idea is to create a site that will give support and information to those Walking Away from Fundamentalism. Although most of our members are (and probably will become) non-christians, keep in mind that this is not an anti-chirstian site - as much as most of us lean in that direction. We are a support community and should do our best to concentrate on giving supportive information and advice. We are not so much geared to what a walk awayer may become - but rather how she/he gets successfully out of fundamentalism with a minimum of pain and suffering.We will be using ideas already put forth in the WA Project Forum as well as ideas and alterations posted in this private forum. Foxmaiden is working on a links page. I am putting together the skeleton for an initial draft version of our site which I shall show to your eyes only in a few days. Meantime, please post ideas for areas, images, design, links etc. here. If you wish to be an active member of this committee and help us get a web site off the ground, then please check in here by posting a message saying as much.Please come back here regularly to input and get updated on progress. I look forward to hearing more from all of you. Let the project begin!

 This is what I have so far, not much I'm afraid, I wasn't 100% sure what exactly I was looking for, but hey, onwards and upwards!  Tally-ho!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
STUMPY: Perhaps in the US we wear our religion as badge/symbol of status, perhaps
some unknown/seen superiority thing, stating who we are, what we believe.
I come from home each parent different denomination. Mother argued, that
I be brought up in her religion.(WHAT A MISTAKE!) Did the obedient daughter thing and when left home, left that religion behind.
This has always had its price. Mother could't realize this was her faith,
religion, worked for her, answered her neeeds but not mine. As of yet, haven't found that which stuck. Am not a 1st generation anything.
This also, causes a little conflict as you get lumped into "heathten/oddity" pile.
Never saw faith as pair of shoes-"nice fit!"
Perhaps clear fogginess a little...............?
Stumpyfficeffice" / onload='javascript:showImageWidth(this,600,600)' class='AutoImageWidthTopic' style='cursor:poionter'>
COFFEE: About the shoes. Most people do what Cinderella's step-sisters did and try to cut off a piece of their foot to fit the faith. Then they go around lame but have the idea that as Cinderella's step-mother said, "When you're Queen you won't have to walk anymore."
Coffee
ALAIN: For a "1st" generation adherent to leave, it is more like having egg on one's face; admitting that one was wrong.
For the 2nd/3rd generation, it is breaking with tradition and striking out on a new path. This can be difficult especially since fundy parents often view their primary role as ensuring their children keep the faith.
Checking in. I suppose the first 2 things we have to decide about are what web hosting service to use and what development tools to use. It'd be nice to use a revision control system so we could coordinate development activites.
Excellent reminder, Waynus. I have a selection of Gnostic philosophy links along with a few former christian, now pagan types. How about a few of those?
I agree, sometimes people think not being fundy is to abandon spirituality. Really it just opens up lots of options to express our humanity.
OK, I'm in. I know I don't post much, but the ifas.org site was very helpful in me walking away. I completely support what this forum stands for, and would love to be a part of making this a reality.
Voltaire wrote: "It'd be nice to use a revision control system so we could coordinate development activites."
Do you mean a Content Management System to easily control the site itself? Or something more like CVS so different people can be working on the site and submit changes without creating conflicts?
I've just realised one problem with me doing anything that involves 'creating' something with a computer.  I have no idea what I'm doing, at all, even the words, clueless me.  I can be the idiot who makes sure that whatever you create is very simple to use though.  If I can do it, anyone can.
If there's one thing a website needs is people to test it out and give feedback to those that are doing the development. There's plenty you can do in that department.
Rhiana,
Don't worry about being clueless with the computer.  We need CONTENT more than we need technical expertise.  Just scribble your ideas into a word processor and post it here (or just post it here right out).  We need your creative mind unplugged!!
Link Lieutenant reporting for duty ( a little late).
My skills:  I've got a lot of links.  I'm good at organizing things into categories.  I also have rudimentary html ability.
So far I've been gathering websites and books together for the links page.
1) Rhiana -- thanks for checking links.  I've noted the errors and will correct them.
2)  Paginity -- if you have more non-fundy theist sites let me know the links.
3) Whoever is good at design and layout -- give me suggestions (or copy my code and change the look!).  Dok's feedback is that my link table-of-contents is too crowded and hard to read.  I also want feedback on whether my cute little clip arts are helpful or just stupid and tacky.  (I had fun with them, but maybe got carried away).
4) If anyone is familiar with any of the links and/or books and thinks they are BAD resources and shouldn't be included, let me know (I haven't previewed everything).
5) Brakthepoet, I have no idea what you're talking about, but it sounds neat and technical.  I was thinking we should try to keep our links updated and delete links whenever they become dead (nothing more annoying than dead links) -- does yor witchcraft, I mean, management system thingies help with that?
6) St. Thomas -- love the skeleton.  Looks good.  I've got no other comments -- just wondering if the books I have linked to on the link page should be moved to the articles and books page (even if we haven't reviewed them).
Everyone please go to the links page and give me feedback (by going to the WA project forum and looking in the thread on the website.)
Thanks, Lauren
Hi again,
Have just updated links page to fit into St. Thomas's skeletal format.  I think the new way I laid out the table-of-contents looks easier to read now.  Again - view it here
Lauren,  great stuff.  I might only suggest that you may consider seperating it on more than one page.  Eventually, I assume that this page of links is going to grow (and grow and grow).  As folks scroll down, they get farther away from the original navigation buttons on the left side.
Speaking of those navigation buttons.  Please, Lauren (and everyone else!)... what do you think of those listed areas?
Introduction
Advice and Help
Community Forum
Articles and Books
Other SItes and Info
This is what I came up with after culling through lots of your ideas and suggestions.  But, are they sufficient???  Lauren has a ton of great stuff that can be plugged into most of these areas already.  I just want to be sure that this is the format/skeleton that we want before I start hanging stuff on it.
Lauren, you asked about the books and articles.  I do think that books and articles should have their own section.  I am actually thinking of having the actual articles themselves (as opposed to just reviews or links) in this section.  I suppose - unless we intend to have an entire book online- that this section will actually be WHOLE articles and book REVIEWS.
The links section that you created will be for ... well.. LINKS only (with brief annotations to the links as you already have).  Lauren, is it okay if I take some of the information from your page for a seperate page on articles and book reviews (or you could actually do it yourself).  Thanks.
Hi St. Thomas
Go right ahead and move anything you think appropriate to the Books and Articles page.  The books are obvious, but some of the links are to sites that have articles on them -- you may have to browse around to find out which are which.
As for dividing it into more than one page, I will get to that this weekend probably.
I think your navigation titles are great.
Yes and no. My dark magic would be there to manage internal links within the site, and to keep the content organized and easily tracked. Managing links to external pages wouldn't be part of a CMS, but there are some programs that can help with that.
And I'm looking at a way to create "breadcrumbs" so people can see where they've gone. (breadcrumbs = Home > Links > Science & Religion > Dawkins [if you've ever noticed stuff like that at the top of some sites]) It's not necessary, but it's a nice touch.
A word of warning, though: we need to be VERY careful of what content we post on a permanent site. Printing full copyrighted articles in a forum isn't legal, but no one really does much about it unless the forum is one of the top 200 busiest or so. We need to be sure to secure permission from the authors before putting them up. I don't want to see some lovely fundy come after us with the DMCA just because they don't like what we're doing. In contrast, though, it's perfectly legal to link to whatever we'd like, so we can go link crazy. And all the original content in the world can be posted, and I think we have some pretty prolific and quality writers right here at Walk Away.
OK, so St Thomas maybe you should only post the links to articles in the "Books and Articles" section or maybe we should leave them in the links section where they are now.  We could include only WA members writings (with permission) in the articles section.
