Re :   Childrens Illustrated Bible: the stuff of nightmares.

What do you mean, "advertising their ignorance"? I've read the book and the author provides all the quotes directly from the Bible that demonstrate the pictures are perfectly legitimate. You need to do more than just say, "this is ignorant".

Topic :   Take your god and shove "it"

Pat.. I only have one little criticism..at the very end. I'd leave that bit off and I wouldn't call 'god' a 'he'.

Re :   Guilt - sharing it around.

So that people can still show love to him, try to forgive him is a bad thing??? Why can't they pray for him?? That doesn't mean they accept or condone his actions - you are being an idiot !

You have no proof that they disregard his crime/s, so you should shut the hell up !

You talk such crap - YOU might think warped things about what xtianity is - but no one else has to be so misguided.

YOU are the fanatic - people on this forum are trying to get away from it - they don't want it handed out in spadefulls by you !

Masturbation does not = porn !!! How the hell do you think up the idea that it does ??? You're totally crazy.

Read the book - honestly - it's good. Not churchy or forced xtianity - just a good perspective on the issue. Don't judge it without looking at it. Oh sorry - that's what you do isn't it ?

Re :   Sex...still sells

Seems perfectly innocent to me - dunno what your beef is?!?

If you agree with this - does that mean you agree lust = bad then? ...just seems to be the opposite of the crap you were coming out with on the other thread is all.

Re :   Childrens Illustrated Bible: the stuff of nightmares.

Another person advertising their ignorance.

Or is he cashing in on the easy target just like everyone else out there?

Gullible people apply here.

Response to this document?...or the idea of it. (its been around since May)

http://www.anevangelicalmanifesto.com/img/divider.png

I've never been all that comfy with the term 'manifesto' or the idea of a 'set of tenets' no matter where they originate from.

Here's are a couple of critics..http://http://theamericanscene.com/2008/05/09/the-manifesto-that-isnt
and
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121029045957979237.html?mod=taste_primary_hs[/url

Seems the term 'fundamentalism' is causing a little discomfort around the 'evangelicals' movement ? The thing does sound very defensive.  hehehe..
maybe all that rhetoric and comparison to Islam fundamentalism has paid off?

Topic :   The McCain Family Bible

http://www.ep.tc/mccain-bible/

HELLO HISTORY ENTHUSIASTS ... ABOUT THE 1934 GEORGE BUSH JOHN McCAIN TIJUANA BIBLE
Snippet from introduction: This item arrived to us through the chanced purchase of a box of random undetermined documents - belonging, we were told, to the recently deceased Millionaire Huntington Hartford. (wiki and obit) The still-sealed box, purchased from a dumpster diver who fetched it from the curbside trash outside Mr Hartford's Bahamas residence last month, arrived without ceremony or description at our steps last Tuesday. We had purchased it for scrap ... upon further review we soon realized that within this box of unimportant personal effects and aged letters there was, in fact, a very important piece of political history. By complete accident we had stumbled upon the hiding place for one of the most coveted political comics of all time: "OBLIGING LADY" - the 1934 Tijuana Bible long sought after by historians as the oldest known document to feature George Bush and John McCain

Okay...

http://www.sa.org/

Sexaholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop lusting and become sexually sober. There are no dues or fees for SA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions.

SA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization, or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes.

Our primary purpose is to stay sexually sober and help others to achieve sexual sobriety.*

Sexaholics Anonymous is a recovery program based on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous and received permission from AA to use its Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions in 1979.

Don't tell me....I know...Its the work of the Devil.

I would very much doubt that his community would have any trust in him at all after this. As it's so public he can't run away either. If there are fans who don't see the truth, then that's their error, and not his.

'Fanaticism' is always bad. Hence this site I thought.

Pornography is bad no matter how you look at it (there's a pun there :)). To look at a person as merely flesh robs them of sex. It robs the viewer of sex too.

Here's a great book: Sex God by Rob Bell

The reported behaviour of 'his community' is more of the same...in that he is still the focus of their 'prayers' and remains a role model to them. An inspiration.

Here it is again...http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,24212817-5006301,00.html
While many in the church were embarrassed by the betrayal, others showed support on Facebook, where a page titled "We are STILL praying for you Mike Guglielmucci" was set up yesterday.

And...I agree
It is their error ...but he and the office / role of  Pastor encourages that kind of  'trust'....blind obedience, submission and loyalty.  That's pretty much the general plan within christianity - the Shepard - the sheep.

Yes..'fanaticism' is a concern but I think 'fanaticism' is encouraged in some social systems ..particularly religious beliefs - blind faith. There's also imo..a connection in todays' (&  in the past) political climate  and particularly evident in the 'change you can believe in' Obama. That kind of emotional attachment is a worry to me  - when people say they 'trust' a politician, it become irrational thinking.

I don't agree with you that anything including Porn  is "always' BAD....... - That is illogical.  I think that is the way its defined by most christians.
What is Pornography to me may not be so to you. I find violence as in the images evoked by the horror of a crucifiction on a cross as was custom to be unpalatable ....also the imagery of 'hell' and many such common symbols within christianity.
Lets not forget that what is inferred in discussions about Porn = MASTURBATION which is a 'normal' and natural part of an individuals sexuality.

Robbing people of intimacy can be also due to a focus on an imaginary friend rather than real live people...and spending too much time sitting on a pew waiting for 'god' to send them a partner..rather than getting experienced and practising relationship building skills.

"Book"...so here is an alternative to the the 'fallen' pastor ...a new Billy G. ? Am I supposed to have 'faith' in him too?

*laughs*...

there will always be a new Shepard to replace  ....its a good and lucrative job and provides 'job' satisfaction - rewards such as fame and fortune..............which is most likely what had poor Pastor MIke  (of this story)  is so hooked up in and addicted to. Not porn.

...

Oh and one the main spin offs to stories such as these -  imo...they are used as marketing tools by other christain denominations to point fingers and SELL their version of the 'truth'.....

Bottom line...b

Re :   Guilt - sharing it around.

Using the same old guilt trip...Pornography

He is swapping one health condition - cancer for another christian defined 'illness' of porn addiction. I would guess he has been conditioned and brought up within this kind of complex and dysfunctional culture - which heavily relies on irrationality to explain the world. It seems its working for him to get out of a tricky situation and still get his 'fans' to pray for him. *sick*
